The Loss Of A Legend - Dom Famularo

Hello BTN Family,

I write this post today to speak about one of the worlds greatest drummers and certainly one of the most influential people on me as an educator.

Dom Famularo was born in Long island New York on August 26th, 1953. He began playing the drums at the age of 11 and overtime became known across the drumming community as The Drumming Global Ambassador. This title was rightfully given to Dom as he literally travelled to globe sharing what was passed down to him. He was the bridge for so many that connected the greats that had passed on, to the folks trying to master this epic instrument today. His Drum Clinics were filled with high energy joy that left everyone in the room feeling like they were extremely valued, seen and cared for.

Myself and a handful of students had the blessing of meeting Dom at the Drumeo Festival in Vancouver back in 2020.

Dom’s infectious smile and way of making you feel like you were the most important person in the room left you feeling honoured to have spent time with him. He even gave me his personal phone number and offered help and advice for our little Academy.

I am so grateful to have met a man like this. A man who decided at an early age to live his life with extreme intention. His drum playing was contagious and inspirational to watch. He had such a high energy and fluid way of playing that every time I watch him, it makes me want to drop everything I’m doing and just go play.

So with that said, I’m gonna go jump on the kit now and enjoy the God-given gift of rhythm and drumming.

I want to leave you with this epic video of Dom at Drumeo HQ. This is his full Masterclass video which I highly encourage you to watch. If you dont have time, at least check out the first few minutes of his drum solo at the beginning of the video and even in that you’ll see a glimpse of who this man was.

Thank you, Dom for your love and care and for finishing the race well.
