2023 BTN Field Trip - DRUMEO!
On November 7th, 25 students and a hand full of teachers and parents embarked on an epic journey from Kelowna BC to Abbotsford on a coach bus for the day to visit the world renowned facility that owns the market on online drum lessons. Drumeo is an online platform that provides drum lessons and educational content for drummers of all skill levels. Drumeo offers a variety of resources, including video lessons, play-along tracks, and live lessons with professional drum instructors. The platform aims to help drummers improve their skills, learn new techniques, and connect with a community of drum enthusiasts.
After visiting and taking part in the Drumeo Festival back in 2020 in Vancouver, I knew it would be amazing to go visit their headquarters one day, especially since it is only a few hours away from Kelowna.
So, after a few zoom calls and emails with the founder of Drumeo, Jared Falk, we made our way down for the day.
It was an incredible visit, jam packed with so much fun. Jared was incredibly hospitable as we toured their large facility. From the gear wear-house brimming with beautiful drums and cymbals, to the studio room where they fly in celebrity drummers, the lights, cameras, editing rooms - it really was incredible!
After the tour, we were brought back into the space where they do all of their filming that you see online. It was their that we met an incredible man by the name of Liberty DeVitto. Liberty is an American drummer, best known for his long-time association with singer-songwriter Billy Joel. Born on August 8, 1950, DeVitto began working with Billy Joel in the 1970s and played on many of Joel's most successful albums, including "The Stranger," "52nd Street," and "Glass Houses."
Liberty was incredibly kind with the students as they asked all their questions. He then took the time to take a picture with every student and person who wanted one, signing drum sticks and more. It was a total pleasure to meet Liberty and be in the room with this legend.
After this, we made our way to Drumeo’s private watching room where we got to watch Liberty’s lesson on Drumeo live. We were offered drinks and snacks and comfy seats as we enjoyed the program. Jared was there with us and absolutely blessed all of us with Drumeo T-shirts, practice pads, Drumeo sticks and Drumeo tuning keys. We then used those pads and sticks for a big communal warm up and drum off. It really was so generous and we felt honoured to be there.
On the way home, the coach bus was buzzing with excitement and gratefulness for the trip.
