BRING THE COMMUNITY

Hello Interweb!

I’m currently sitting at my kitchen table where the sun is beating down on my face and I am feeling those good vibes hard! Typically I’m downstairs in my studio/office working, but it unfortunately does not face the sun, and with our daughter sleeping and my wife at work, its a quiet space and perfect to soak in these January rays.

It’s been a phenomenal month filled with more school tours, great teaching sessions, and BTN’s first ever monthly hang out! I wanted to break out of the norm from private one on one lessons and offer a monthly opportunity for the students and I to spend time together, and building this little community of ours.

We broke ground at Gneiss Climbimg Gym in Kelowna where we had four young lads join in on the fun! I loved the small group. It felt very manageable and possible for us to actually hang out together and talk.

I’ve always loved smaller groups. Ever since I was kid in school, I had this feeling that 20/30 kids crammed in a class with one teacher made zero sense. I felt like if I had a question or issue, I couldn’t bring it up lest I be either laughed at by peers for asking a “dumb question” or somehow being overlooked by the teacher who’s midway to burnout.

Smaller sizes means more intentional, focused and if possible, meaningful time…at least in my opinion.

So we had a great night climbing and facing some fears and anxiety around thoughts like “I could never climb that high!” or “what happens if I fall?” I love how transferable something like Bouldering is to life. No ropes, some padding below and a whole lot of encouragement from friends saying “You can do it, man!”.

Looking ahead to February it’s full steam ahead as I have no tours booked for the month thus I will be focusing hard on getting the students ready for the end of year recital in June. I’m excited this year for some new comers to hit the stage and show off their new skills!

I hope everyone has had a productive first month of 2020 and I wish you all a very good day, or a good night!
